Pearson Edexcel IAL Advice
Pearson Edexcel IAL January 2027 Hong Kong Registration: Deadline, Fees, Cash-In Rules and Exam Dates
Students sitting the Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL) January 2027 examinations in Hong Kong have an important deadline today.
The normal registration window closes on 18 September 2026 at 5:30 p.m. Hong Kong time.
Candidates who miss it will still have a short late-entry window from 21–25 September 2026, but HKEAA will charge a HK$538 supplementary fee on top of the normal examination fees.
For students planning to use previous unit results towards an overall AS or A Level grade, there are also two details that should not be overlooked during registration: the cash-in code and UCI number.
Pearson Edexcel IAL January 2027 registration deadline
For candidates registering through the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority:
Normal entry: 7 September – 18 September 2026 at 5:30 p.m.
Late entry: 21 September – 25 September 2026 at 5:30 p.m.
January 2027 examination period: 8–25 January 2027
Results: March 2027.
No registration will be accepted after the late-entry deadline.
How much does late registration cost?
Candidates registering during the late-entry period must pay their normal examination fees plus a HK$538 supplementary late-entry fee per application.
The actual examination fee depends on the units being entered, so candidates should check the amount shown during the HKEAA registration process carefully before payment.
This is one reason not to leave registration until the final few days.
What is the Pearson Edexcel IAL cash-in rule?
This is one of the most important parts of the registration process.
Pearson Edexcel IAL qualifications are modular.
Students complete individual units, and those unit results can then be combined to produce an overall International AS or International A Level qualification grade.
That process is known as cash-in.
HKEAA states that candidates who want an overall qualification grade must enter the correct cash-in code during registration.
Without the cash-in entry, Pearson Edexcel will not issue the overall qualification grade or certificate.
So do not assume that completing all the required units automatically produces the final qualification grade.
What is a UCI and why does it matter?
Candidates combining unit results from different examination series should also provide their existing Unique Candidate Identifier (UCI).
The UCI allows Pearson Edexcel to connect a student's previously banked unit results with their current entries.
If the wrong UCI is supplied — or a different one is used — previous unit results may not be matched correctly for cash-in.
Students who previously sat IAL examinations through HKEAA but do not know their UCI should contact HKEAA before completing registration.
Changing or adding units
Candidates who later need to add or change units have until 25 September 2026 at 5:30 p.m.
Additional charges apply.
Access-arrangement requests, including modified papers, also close on 25 September at 5:30 p.m.
Candidates should therefore check their entered subjects and units carefully before the registration window closes.
Check the January 2027 timetable before registering
The January examination series runs from 8–25 January 2027.
HKEAA specifically advises candidates to check the Pearson Edexcel examination timetable before submitting their entry because examination dates cannot simply be rearranged to suit individual schedules.
Students sitting several units should check for:
timetable clashes multiple papers on the same day travel time between examination centres whether all required units have actually been entered
Do this before payment rather than discovering a problem later.
Registration is done — what should happen next?
January may still feel far away.
It is not.
Once registration is complete, students have only a few months to turn weak topics into reliable exam marks.
This is the point to identify:
units where understanding is weakest topics repeatedly costing marks papers where timing is a problem subjects where past-paper scores are still below target
Waiting until December to begin serious preparation can make the final weeks unnecessarily stressful.
