Show your child two pictures of the same plant taken a week apart. Ask what they can observe in each picture and what they would need to know before explaining a difference. Was the amount of water the same? Was one plant placed in less light? Do they have enough information to decide?

The child does not need a sophisticated scientific report. One observation, one possible explanation and one question to investigate are enough. This helps a tutor see whether the learner can separate evidence from an assumption, a skill that supports later Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
