Online SAT Reading and Writing Tutor: A Plan for the Digital Test
If you want an online SAT Reading and Writing tutor, begin with the questions you miss, not only your overall section score. The digital SAT uses short passages or passage pairs followed by a single multiple-choice question, according to the College Board's section overview. That format rewards careful reading of the exact task.
Sort your missed questions by cause
Review an official practice test and group errors. Were you unsure of a word's meaning in context? Did you miss the main idea, use evidence that did not support the answer, or make a grammar and punctuation mistake? A student with mostly convention errors needs a different lesson from one who struggles with inference.
Write down the reason for each wrong choice. “I rushed” is a possible cause, but check whether you also misunderstood the sentence. If you repeatedly choose an answer that sounds sophisticated but is not supported by the passage, the issue may be evidence rather than vocabulary.
A focused practice cycle
Choose one skill for the week. The official Student Question Bank can filter questions by domain and skill. Attempt a short set under reasonable time pressure. Explain each answer, including why the tempting alternatives are weaker. Return to mixed questions later so you can recognise the skill without a label.
Use a full practice test occasionally to check how the work transfers. Doing one every day without reviewing mistakes is less informative than a small set followed by careful correction.
What should an online tutor do?
The tutor should listen to how you interpret the question, ask what in the passage supports your choice, and help you find a repeatable way to eliminate unsupported options. For grammar, they should explain the rule and ask you to apply it in a fresh sentence.
Ask how they will measure improvement by question type as well as total score. No responsible tutor can promise a particular SAT score.

A sample review that beats guessing
For each wrong answer, write the exact phrase in the passage or sentence that makes the correct option work. Then identify what made your chosen option attractive. Perhaps it reused a word from the passage but changed its meaning; perhaps it was grammatically possible but did not fit the punctuation of the full sentence.
Finally, answer a new question from the same skill area without looking at the explanation. If you still choose by “what sounds right,” ask the tutor to teach a more explicit rule or evidence check. The point of review is to change your next decision.
Keep the momentum going. A simple, consistent routine can make returning to school feel much more manageable.
