November GCSE Maths Resit Dates and Entry Deadlines 2026
If you are planning to retake GCSE Maths in November 2026, there are two dates you need to know immediately: when the exams take place and when you need to enter for them.
The November GCSE Maths resit series takes place in early November, with the three Maths papers scheduled for Wednesday 4 November, Friday 6 November and Monday 9 November 2026.
The main entry deadline for the November 2026 GCSE series is 4 October 2026, although your school, college or private exam centre may set an earlier internal deadline.
November GCSE Maths Resit Dates 2026
For major GCSE exam boards including AQA and Pearson Edexcel, the November 2026 GCSE Maths papers are scheduled as follows:
- GCSE Maths Paper 1: Wednesday 4 November 2026 — Non-calculator
- GCSE Maths Paper 2: Friday 6 November 2026 — Calculator
- GCSE Maths Paper 3: Monday 9 November 2026 — Calculator
The papers are scheduled in the morning session.
Students should always confirm their individual timetable with the school, college or exam centre where they have been entered.
What Is the November GCSE Maths Entry Deadline for 2026?
The standard entry deadline for the November 2026 GCSE examination series is:
4 October 2026
This is an important date because entries made after the deadline may attract additional fees.
However, students should not wait until 4 October to start looking for an exam centre.
Schools, colleges and private candidate centres may impose their own earlier registration deadlines so that they have enough time to process entries.
If you are taking GCSE Maths as a private candidate, it is sensible to contact exam centres as early as possible in September.
Who Can Take GCSE Maths in November 2026?
The November GCSE series is mainly designed for students who are resitting GCSE Maths or English Language.
For the November 2026 GCSE series, students entering GCSE Maths must normally have been at least 16 years old on 31 August 2026.
The November sitting can therefore be particularly useful for students who:
- received a lower GCSE Maths grade than expected in summer 2026
- did not achieve the Grade 4 required by their college or sixth form
- need a stronger Maths grade for university or apprenticeship applications
- want to improve their previous GCSE Maths result
- are taking the examination through a private candidate centre

AQA GCSE Maths November 2026 Dates
For AQA GCSE Mathematics 8300, both Foundation and Higher students follow the same exam dates:
- Paper 1 – 4 November 2026
- Paper 2 – 6 November 2026
- Paper 3 – 9 November 2026
Paper 1 is non-calculator, while Papers 2 and 3 allow calculators.
Each AQA GCSE Maths paper lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.
Edexcel GCSE Maths November 2026 Dates
Pearson Edexcel GCSE Mathematics follows the same November timetable:
- Paper 1 – Wednesday 4 November 2026
- Paper 2 – Friday 6 November 2026
- Paper 3 – Monday 9 November 2026
Both Foundation and Higher Tier students sit their respective papers on these dates.
This makes it particularly important to confirm that your exam centre has entered you for the correct tier.
Foundation or Higher: Which Tier Should You Resit?
Students retaking GCSE Maths should carefully consider whether Foundation or Higher Tier gives them the best opportunity to reach their target grade.
Foundation Tier covers grades 1–5, while Higher Tier covers grades 4–9, with a limited Grade 3 available in certain circumstances.
If your main goal is achieving a secure Grade 4, Foundation may be appropriate for some students.
Students targeting Grade 6 or above need to take Higher Tier.
The decision should be based on your current performance rather than simply choosing the same tier you took previously.
How Do Private Candidates Enter the November GCSE Maths Resit?
If you are no longer attending the school where you originally took your GCSEs, you can usually enter through a registered examination centre that accepts private candidates.
Start by contacting centres and asking:
- whether they accept GCSE Maths private candidates
- which exam board they offer
- whether Foundation and Higher Tier are both available
- the total examination fee
- their internal registration deadline
- whether access arrangements can be accommodated
Do this early.
Private candidate places can be limited, and some centres stop accepting entries well before the official deadline.
What Happens If You Miss the GCSE Resit Entry Deadline?
Missing the 4 October 2026 standard entry deadline does not always mean that taking the November examination becomes impossible.
Late entries may still be accepted by exam boards, but additional fees can apply and individual centres may refuse late registrations altogether.
For that reason, students hoping to take the November Maths resit should aim to complete their registration during September rather than relying on late entry.
How Much Time Is Left to Prepare?
For students starting revision at the beginning of September, there are roughly nine weeks before Paper 1 on 4 November.
That is enough time to make meaningful progress, but preparation needs to be focused.
Rather than revising every Maths topic equally, identify the topics that cost you the most marks in your previous examination.
Your revision should combine:
- targeted topic revision
- exam-style questions
- calculator and non-calculator practice
- timed past papers
- regular marking and error analysis
