For many IGCSE students and parents in Kuwait, results day in 2026 comes with more questions than usual.

Students spent months preparing for the June examination series, only for the exam arrangements in Kuwait to change. Now, as results day approaches, families are not only wondering what grades they will receive. They also want to understand how those grades were calculated, whether they will be accepted normally, and what to do if a result is lower than expected.

Cambridge IGCSE and O Level results for the June 2026 series are due on 18 August 2026, while Pearson Edexcel International GCSE results will be released to students on 20 August 2026.

Why IGCSE results in Kuwait are different in 2026

The June 2026 Cambridge examinations did not go ahead as originally planned in Kuwait.

Cambridge International cancelled the June examination series in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE. Instead, affected students entered for Cambridge IGCSE, O Level, AS and A Level qualifications are receiving grades through the Portfolio of Evidence route.

Pearson Edexcel also introduced contingency arrangements for students affected by the cancellation of examinations in Kuwait.

This means some students receiving IGCSE results this August did not complete the usual written examination series they originally prepared for.

How Cambridge Portfolio of Evidence grades work

Cambridge's Portfolio of Evidence route allows students to receive a qualification when examinations cannot proceed normally.

Instead of relying on the cancelled written papers, schools submitted authenticated examples of students' work that demonstrated their knowledge and ability across the course.

Cambridge examiners then assessed that evidence using Cambridge's normal standards.

Cambridge has also stated that grades awarded through the Portfolio of Evidence route should be recognised as equivalent to grades achieved through external examinations.

That is important for families worried that a portfolio grade somehow makes the qualification less valuable.

It does not.

Students following the Portfolio of Evidence route receive their results alongside other Cambridge candidates.

For Cambridge IGCSE and O Level students, results will be released on 18 August 2026.

What about Pearson Edexcel IGCSE students in Kuwait?

Pearson's contingency arrangements are slightly different.

Depending on the student's qualification and the assessment evidence available, grades may be determined using existing assessment information or through Pearson's International Contingency Grading process supported by a portfolio of evidence.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE results for the June 2026 series will be released to students on 20 August 2026.

It is also important to understand that requesting a review does not automatically mean a grade will increase.

Should your child appeal or retake an IGCSE?

This depends on why the result was disappointing.

A student who narrowly missed an important grade may want to speak with their school about the appropriate review process.

A student who has substantial gaps in Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry or Physics may need something different.

In that case, simply chasing a different grade may not solve the real problem.

For example, a student may technically pass IGCSE Maths while still struggling with algebra, fractions or multi-step problem solving. Another student may achieve a reasonable Biology grade but still have weak understanding of important topics that will return at a higher level.

Moving forward without addressing those weaknesses can make the next stage much harder.

Sometimes the more useful question is not:

“Can we get this grade changed?”

“What does my child need to improve before the next stage?”

Preparing for an IGCSE retake in Kuwait

If a retake becomes necessary, preparation should not simply mean repeating the same study routine.

Start by identifying what went wrong.

Was the student struggling with subject knowledge?

Was time management the problem?

Did they understand the content but lose marks because of exam technique?

Were they relying too heavily on memorisation?
