IGCSE Remark 2026: Is It Worth Requesting a Review of Marking?

You opened your IGCSE results 2026 and one grade simply does not look right.

What Does an IGCSE Remark Actually Mean?

“Remark” is the term most students and parents use, but exam boards use more specific language.

Cambridge International offers Enquiries About Results, including a review of marking. Pearson Edexcel calls its service a Review of Marking and Moderation.

This does not simply mean that an examiner casually marks the whole paper again. The exam board checks whether the original marking was applied correctly according to its procedures.

When Is an IGCSE Remark Worth Considering?

A review of marking is most worth discussing when:

• You are very close to the next grade boundary
• Your result is unexpectedly different from your usual performance
• A teacher reviews your script and spots answers that may have been under-marked
• The higher grade matters for sixth form, International A Levels, IB or another academic requirement
• There is a realistic reason to believe a marking error occurred

For example, being one mark below an A gives you a stronger reason to investigate than being 15 marks below it.

Check the Script Before Requesting a Review

Where possible, ask your school or exam centre about obtaining your marked exam script.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, schools can use the Access to Scripts service to view marked papers. This can help teachers identify whether a review of marking has a realistic chance of helping.

Do not look only at the final grade. Look at where the marks were lost.

A teacher who understands the mark scheme can often give you a much clearer idea of whether requesting a review makes sense.

What Are the IGCSE Remark Deadlines for 2026?

Do not delay this decision.

For the Cambridge June 2026 examination series, the deadline for submitting an Enquiry About Results is 20 September 2026.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, the deadline for Reviews of Marking and Moderation for the summer 2026 series is 24 September 2026.

Your school may set an earlier internal deadline, so contact the exams officer as soon as possible.

Can Your IGCSE Grade Change After a Remark?

A review can result in the mark changing or remaining exactly the same.

This is why the decision should be based on evidence rather than hope.

For Cambridge International specifically, its 2026 rules protect the overall syllabus grade from being reduced following an Enquiry About Results, although component marks may change.

Pearson's procedures differ, so students should discuss the possible outcomes with their exams officer before requesting a review.

Remark or Accept the Result?

Consider these three questions:

1. How close am I to the next grade?
2. Does the higher grade materially affect my next academic step?
3. Is there evidence from the script or my teacher that the marking may be wrong?

If the answer to all three is yes, investigating a review is reasonable.

If you are many marks below the next boundary and the paper reflects genuine knowledge gaps, your time may be better spent strengthening the subject rather than relying on a remark.
